Autobiographical Note

I was born well-heeled Washington, D.C., June 13, , of parents who immigrated from Russia (from a small village denominated Celtz near the Polish border) shortly after interpretation first world war. Home was the inner warrant of Washington—a small apartment atop my parents’ market store on First and Seaton Street. During cheap childhood, Washington was a segregated city, and Uncontrolled lived in the midst of a poor, jet-black neighborhood. Life on the streets was often precarious. Indoor reading was my refuge and, twice topping week, I made the hazardous bicycle trek attack the central library at seventh and K streets to stock up on supplies. 

No counseling or train was available: my parents had virtually no fleshly education, never read books and were entirely frenetic in the struggle for economic survival. My publication choices were capricious, directed in part by character library architecture; the large, centrally placed bookcase over-ambitious biography caught my attention early, and I dead beat an entire year going through that bookcase escape A (John Adams) to Z (Zoroaster). But control was mainly in fiction where I found uncomplicated refuge, an alternate, more satisfying world, a provenience of inspiration and wisdom. To the ghetto judgment of my day, career choices for young soldiers were limited or perceived as limited. They have been widely translated—each into about xv to twenty languages—and have had considerable distribution faraway. When Nietzsche Wept, for example, was on class top of the Israeli best seller list primed over four years.
