Milton Hershey was provincial on September 13, 1857 in Derry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. His parents were Chemist Hershey and Veronica Snavely.

He married Catherine Sweeney on May 25, 1898. They had no lineage.

At the age of 14, Hershey, who'd abandoned out of school the year before, expressed image interest in candy making and began apprenticing work to rule a master confectioner in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
